Rob in the TARDIS: SDCC

Rob in the TARDIS: SDCC

First off, I apologize for skipping last Tuesday’s Doctor Who article. I Found myself re-watching Game of Thrones from the beginning and got completely sucked in for the last week. But that’s a topic for another time. I’m back, and what a week to return on! The San Diego Comic Con has brought no shortages in the Doctor Who news world and, more importantly, Matt Smith seemed to have a pretty good time. He borrowed the marvelous Nathan Fillion’s twitter account and walked the floor of the convention in a Bart Simpson mask.

It’s a shame more people weren’t into talking to him. Are the American’s not as friendly and nice as their brothers across the pond? Well there is one thing the UK Who-ers are not very happy about. The fact that the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary trailer was played at the convention here in the States first. BBC still views America as a large untapped market as far as sales in merchandising goes, so there is a big push going on to make the Doctor huge in North America. While well established UK Who centered news groups struggle to get time with anyone related to Doctor Who, Jenna Louise Coleman (the sexy English actress who plays the Doctor’s best companion in years) was “chatting to small podcasts and fan sites” in the US.

But not all is lost for those who could not attend SDCC, as there is big news for ALL of us Who fans, and sooner than you might think. There are rumors that the new doctor will be reviled on a special Doctor Who Confidential, as was done in 2010 for the unveiling of Matt Smith. “Reliable sources” say that it would likely happen as soon as August. If so, then oh what a magical month that will be!
The 50th anniversary special has rumors that another previous Doctor will be joining Matt Smith and David Tennant in the feature length outing with Daleks and Zygons. Those same illusive sources say it will be between Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, and Paul McGann. So pretty much any of the living Doctors that aren’t Christopher Eccleston, which is perfect for me. After months of playing “will they or won’t they” I am REALLY excited at the prospect of actually including some history from the past 50 years in the 50 year anniversary special. It feels only right.

That’s it for this week, companions. Make sure to check in next week for more fun in the TARDIS!

Be safe, and stay nerdy!
